MEDICATION CHECK with Global DRO

CHECK YOUR MEDICATION FOR PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES

The International Paralympic Committee has developed “Medication Check” to help athletes avoid an unintentional positive test caused by taking medication that contains a prohibited substance.

Medication Check uses the Global Drug Reference Online (Global DRO) platform, which provides athletes and support personnel with information about the status of specific medications based on the current World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

Too many athletes test positive because they used a medication to treat a genuine health concern, without first checking its ingredients. Based on the principle of strict liability, athletes are responsible for any prohibited substances found in their doping control sample – regardless of whether they intended to dope or not.

The IPC Medication Check is easy to use and available to all athletes and support personnel from International Federations recognised by the IPC. Carrying out a simple medication check can help athletes avoid the stress of an unintentional positive test and a potential ban from all sport.

IPC recommends athletes also consult with a medical professional, such as their team doctor, before using any over the counter or prescribed medication.

How to use the IPC Medication Check:

Para athletes and support personnel who purchased their medication from one of the seven Global DRO member countries can check their medication by either brand name OR ingredients using the search box below. These countries include Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Switzerland, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Medication purchased from all other countries must be checked by INGREDIENTS ONLY using the search box below.

IMPORTANT: Medication with the same brand name but produced in different countries may contain different ingredients. For this reason, it is important that each active ingredient is searched for all medication purchased outside of the seven Global DRO member countries.
